11Onze, honoured at the prestigious Webby Awards
The Webby Awards, considered the most important awards on the Internet, this year included La Plaça of 11Onze among the best financial services and banking websites in the world. Also competing in its category were Apple, Citibank, Morgan Stanley and Bank of America.
La Plaça of 11Onze has been selected Official Honoree at the Webby Awards, considered the ‘Oscars’ of the Internet. It has achieved this recognition in the category of the best financial services and banking website, in which giants such as Apple, Citibank, Morgan Stanley and Bank of America have also been distinguished.
The Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), have been hailed by ‘The New York Times’ as the “Internet’s highest honour”. Since 1996, the awards have annually honoured excellence in a range of digital fields, from websites and mobiles to apps and games.
Tough competition
This year, the Webby Awards received more than 14,300 entries from 70 countries around the world. These included Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Laverne Cox, Gucci, Megan Thee Stallion and NASA. Dermot O’Shea, founder of Wondr, the digital product development agency that collaborated in the creation of La Plaça of 11Onze, has stressed that “it is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best”.
Claire Graves, president of the Webby Awards, declared that “the honorees, like Wondr and 11Onze, are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet”. Toni Mata, director of content at 11Onze, expressed his satisfaction for this recognition of “the vision of 11Onze and the excellent work of Wondr and the art team led by Laia Gubern”. He added that seeing 11Onze’s name alongside that of world-class giants just one year after launching La Plaça “confirms what we are doing is having a clear impact on the international financial system”.
A revolutionary model
James Sène, Chairman of 11Onze, highlighted the “achievement” that means being an Official Honoree at the Webby Awards, which is reserved exclusively for the top 20% of entries. Sène also emphasised the originality of La Plaça, “an innovative digital experience that combines a social network with a system to manage learning”, and highlighted the fact that it has been able to attract “more than 13,000 members, double the initial target.”
11Onze is the first fintech community in Europe offering financial literacy and wealth creation services to its members.
Its innovative model hinges on a private social network (La Plaça), a digital currency (Les Peles), a universal banking super app (El Canut) and an expansive educational library, which provides content on finance, economics, well-being and sustainability. To date, 11Onze has published nearly 1,200 videos and 1,100 articles online in three languages (English, Catalan and Spanish).
Giants among giants
The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences is made up of more than 2000 experts from the Internet industry, working in companies such as Backstage Capital, Wieden+Kennedy, The New York Times, The Washington Post, &Co, TikTok, Disney and Peloton.
Webby Awards sponsors and partners include Verizon, WP Engine, Canva, Omidyar Network, YouGov, NAACP, KPMG, Fast Company, Wall Street Journal, MediaPost, Podcast Movement, TheFutureParty and AIGA.

By reducing the amount of plastic waste we generate, we not only help to maintain the fragile balance of the planet’s ecosystems, but we can also save a significant amount of money. Coral Santacruz, from the 11Onze marketing team, explains how to do this by changing our water consumption habits, in a new episode of Estat de la Nació.
At 11Onze we have taken advantage of our community character to launch 11Onze Essentials, and make group purchases to reduce the costs of many of the products or services we consume on a daily basis, without neglecting our commitment to the environment. “We always try to find the best financial or savings solutions for our community,” says Santacruz.
Avoiding unnecessary cost overruns on essential products is an easy way to save, or, at the very least, reduce spending on products we can’t do without. As Santacruz puts it, “There are many people in our community who cannot afford to save because they do not have high salaries. Therefore, we have to focus on reducing planned expenses, such as water.
A family of four consuming bottled water generates 63 kilos of plastic waste per year, and as Coral says, “This has a very negative effect on the planet and our economy. This expenditure on plastic bottles represents about 1,200 – 1,500 euros per year. Water filters offer an economical, healthy, and sustainable alternative for household water consumption while helping us to control these micro-expenses and save at the end of the year.
By becoming aware of the consequences of our purchasing and consumption habits, we can make small changes that do not require much effort, but will have a significant impact on our economy and the environment. You can watch the whole interview in the video below!
If you want to discover how to drink the best water, save money and help the planet, go to 11Onze Essentials.
On Thursday 7 April, Tapp Water filters were launched on the 11Onze website with the aim of saving money and reducing plastic waste. This initiative has been very well received by the community of La Plaça and the first units have already been delivered. They could mean a saving per family of more than a thousand euros a year.
“The response from the community has been fantastic and many people have joined the initiative in these first few days”. Sandra Molas, 11Onze’s sales manager, is this emphatic about the proposal to offer Tapp Water filters four days after the launch of the 11Onze Essentials campaign. “We have exceeded our expectations,” she says.
She was one of the first to purchase a tap filter and a shower filter on Thursday, and explains that the delivery company has already notified her that she will receive the order today. So far, 57% of the kits sold are of the EcoPro model for the tap and 43% are of the ShowerPro model for the shower. The price of the EcoPro model is 79.99 euros and the price of the ShowerPro model is 49.99 euros, transport included.
As for the geographical distribution of sales, the Catalan region with the most purchases is Vallès Oriental, with 29% of the total, followed by Barcelonès and Vallès Occidental, each with 14%.
Sustainability, savings and wellness
“You only have to look at the comments at La Plaça to realise that people have understood why we have launched this product,” says Sandra Molas. Saving doesn’t necessarily mean depriving yourself of a lot of things; it often means avoiding unnecessary cost overruns on essential products.
Tapp Water filters are the first proposal in the 11Onze Essentials range to enable La Plaça members to cut costs on products they can’t do without. “We will look for tools and products that help the community reduce their fixed costs, all those things that we need in our daily lives and for which we are perhaps paying much more than we need to,” explains Molas.
The sales manager of 11Onze points out that the example of water is very obvious: “A thousand litres of water in the city of Barcelona cost 2.60 euros, practically the same as an 8-litre bottle of some brands. It is quite something. Because of the cost and because of all the plastic generated.”
Sandra Molas adds that there are plans to launch a series of products that cannot yet be revealed, although all of them will be characterised by “sustainability, savings and wellness”.
If you want to discover how to drink the best water, save money and help the planet, go to 11Onze Essentials.
One thousand euros extra in your pocket and 60 kg less plastic for the planet. This would be the result each year of replacing bottled water consumption with filtered tap water. Sandra Molas, sales manager at 11Onze, explains how we can start to reduce fixed costs thanks to a new 11Onze product line of which Tapp Water filters are the first example.
Sandra Molas, sales manager at 11Onze, introduces, in this podcast, the Tapp Water water filters that are now available at 11Onze`s website. This is the first product in a new range called Essentials, which will be appearing in the 11Onze Marketplace “to help people save on essential expenses”, according to Molas.
The 11Onze sales manager calculates that bottled water consumption for a family of four “is almost 3,000 litres a year”, which means “an annual cost, if you buy bottled water, of at least 1,000 euros”. And you must add to this the “60 kg of plastic” off the planet that the 2,000 1.5-litre bottles represent.
Lowest price thanks to group purchasing
The Tapp Water filter, which is made of 70% coconut shell, captures up to 100 substances present in tap water, including heavy metals, and “the taste of water changes noticeably”, according to Molas. From the Essentials‘ section at 11Onze, you can now buy the tap water filter with a year’s supply of refills for €79.99.
A shower kit is also available at 11Onze website for €49.99. This second filter is designed for adults and children who have “delicate skin”, as “filtering out heavy metals helps to reduce itching”, as the sales manager of 11Onze explains, and also to save on shampoo and soap.
Sandra Molas explains that buying the filters as a community such as 11Onze has made it possible to get the “best possible price for this product”.
Savings, health and environment
In the interview, Sandra Molas also warns of the risk to our health posed by the particles that are released from water bottles due to the heat to which they can be subjected to during storage and transport: “When these plastics are heated, they release micro-particles into the water and you drink this water. And no one can tell if the container you drink from has been “in a sunny place”.
“We are talking about savings, we are talking about health and we are talking about the environment,” Molas concludes.

The health crisis has shown that not everyone has the same ability to cope with unforeseen situations that negatively affect our income and earning potential. But how can we prepare ourselves to take care of our finances in the face of unexpected events? Lara de Castro, HR Business Partner at 11Onze, and Gemma Vallet, Director of 11Onze District, talk to us about financial resilience in a new episode of Territori 17.
“Human beings always have two main choices: one is to stay stuck, and the other is to overcome and learn something from this crisis. Acquiring useful resources to face things that may happen in the future. And this is resilience”, explains Lara de Castro, and details why applying financial resilience can help us in a multitude of small unforeseen events that can destabilise our economy.
The ability to adapt to adverse economic situations is often determined by how we manage uncertainty and the level of our financial education. Still, two unfinished business for many of us. “Education today, and historically, does not teach us life skills. We have not been taught how to manage uncertainty, and this is a basic skill that we should learn from an early age,” says De Castro.
Having a financial plan for the future
Lara de Castro points out that financial resilience is based on three fundamental pillars: “Saving, financial education and a financial plan“. And in this context, she says that the consumerist society in which we live is not interested in people saving: “We are not aware of the need to save in order to face the unforeseen events and uncertainties of everyday life”.
Gemma Vallet adds that it is necessary to differentiate between personal financial management and the macroeconomic management of the country: “At the macroeconomic level, we also need a very powerful education to be able to anticipate this savings management. For example, you may be saving for your studies, but suddenly a war breaks out and this changes your entire financial planning”.
Precisely to combat this lack of financial education, 11Onze launched the Learn section at La Plaça, where we give our community the opportunity to learn about finance and the economy. If you want to know more about financial resilience, check out the Territori 17 podcast!

The first steps of 11Onze have not been easy. The organisation has suffered foul play, as Toni Mata, 11Onze’s content director, acknowledges in a new episode of Estat de la Nació. The executive offers details of ‘In a few days’, a documentary about the first months of the entity that will be released on 23 April.
Which are 11Onze’s aspirations? What obstacles have been put in its way? Has it suffered foul play on the part of traditional banks? These are some of the questions that ‘En 4 dies’ will answer on 23 April, according to Toni Mata, content director of 11Onze. This documentary, which will be available for free at 11onze.cat, offers details about the first steps of the entity and, according to Mata, allows us to see “how establishment acts when no one is watching.”
Asked about the obstacles that 11Onze has faced, the executive indicates that “they will be explained in detail in the documentary”. Mata says that establishment “have done things that should not have been done.” And he reflects on the lack of presence of 11Onze in many media: “We have to start looking at who finances media so we start to understand how the country really works.”
“We want this information to circulate, we want people to see what happens when you try to start up a financial institution in Catalonia,” adds Toni Mata.
A revolutionary aim
Regarding the spirit of the entity, Toni Mata explains “this is something that comes from below. We want people to be able to use this financial institution so that this country can grow.”
As for the title of the documentary, Toni Mata explains that it comes from the answer given to all the people who asked when they would be able to open an 11Onze account at the beginning: “Soon, in a few days”.

11Onze explains in a documentary the obstacles it has had to overcome to start up its financial arm, El Canut. ‘In a few days’ will be available exclusively at La Plaça on 23 April, Sant Jordi’s Day.
‘In a few days’ had to be a light-hearted documentary, about how we set up El Canut,” explains Toni Mata, director of the documentary and content director of 11Onze. “We noticed that many people asked us ‘when will I be able to open an 11Onze account?’ and we wanted to say ‘in four days, very soon‘. But we felt the need to also explain the foul play we had to deal with,” he adds.
The filming began in July, when the sprint to release El Canut, 11Onze’s super-app, started, and four key days have been chosen from the whole process. Therefore, ‘In a few days’ shows the work, the tension, the doubts, and the illusion that are experienced when such an ambitious project is underway. “There were a thousand things to do, there were changes from one day to the next depending on what was feasible. The trick is knowing how to overcome obstacles to move forward, this is what we wanted to show. A team working hard to create the first Catalan financial institution in 100 years”, says Mata.
Who is bothered by 11Onze?
But ‘In a few days’ is not just about the birth of El Canut on the last 1-O of 2021. It is a documentary that explains how it has all been achieved and the opposition and the manoeuvres of the traditional banking system to prevent it. There have been all sorts. Suppliers who mysteriously backed out at the last minute, even with the signed contracts, notices that have arrived directly at the home of some members of the management team and even an infiltrator. “It has certainly been unpleasant to discover that the establishment is willing to do anything to prevent an alternative for the Catalans,” says Toni Mata.
It was not a surprise. 11Onze was prepared, and that is why it is still functioning and growing. “We didn’t expect this level of belligerence so soon. We are very small. But they know that we come to challenge the status quo with a solid business model. And we don’t depend on the usual entities, or the usual companies, or the usual parties. We have found that they are scared of people organising themselves to create a tool like 11Onze”, reveals the content director of 11Onze.
Shining a light on power structures
Money is at the centre of power and everyone knows it. That’s why any real change starts with citizens taking control of money. “This is what we are here to do. When you have control of money, you can decide”, says Mata.
For this reason, ‘In a few days’ comes to shed some light, so that everyone knows how power structures work. “Surely it must have surprised them that we have withstood the onslaught. But they will probably be more surprised when we explain it openly. We are not used to the fact that these manoeuvres are explained publicly. Well, this also has to be changed. We are committed to the truth, so that everyone knows how things really work. And no, it’s not all pretty”, Mata closes.
Where can I watch ‘In a few days’?
The documentary ‘In a few days’ will be available to all users of La Plaça on 23 April, Sant Jordi’s Day. On the 22nd there will be a preview in a cinema for the press, employees, investors, and the most active members of La Plaça.
If you are part of the media and would like to be accredited for the preview of ‘In a few days’, please write to [email protected].
The truckers’ strike comes on top of rising inflation that was already affecting us on a day-to-day basis. The conflict in Ukraine and the prevailing economic uncertainty do not give confidence in the stock markets. In a new episode of Estat de la Nació, Amadeu Vilaginés, from the 11Onze product team, explains how the collective purchase of gold can help us protect our savings.
The war in Ukraine is often cited as the main reason for the rise in inflation, but as Vilaginés explains: “The war in Ukraine is a key cause, but it is not the whole truth of the story. The debt overhang of states and the large amount of money that has been printed have caused the value of money to fall”.
In the face of the prevailing economic uncertainty, 11Onze works by leveraging its community-based nature to offer the best savings solutions to its clients. Precious metals offer unique inflation protection based on their intrinsic value, and gold is the ultimate safe-haven asset. “Ordinary people are seeing how their savings are losing value, and at 11Onze we offer the collective purchase of gold. An asset that has maintained its value for millennia, and that will allow us to maintain our purchasing power”, adds Vilaginés.
The intrinsic value of physical gold
Gold, unlike currencies and some stock market assets, does not carry credit risk and cannot be inflated. “As we are seeing, banks give us almost nothing for our savings. Gold is a physical asset, which we can touch, and it does not have the volatility that shares or other financial assets can have in the face of events such as sanctions against Russia”, Vilaginés points out.
At 11Onze we believe that the financial empowerment of people implies having the necessary financial education to understand why financial crises occur, and the tools to deal with the consequences of these economic downturns. Preciosos 11Onze was born as a tool for the 11Onze community to protect their savings in an extremely convulsive context. And as Vilaginès explains, “The response from our customers has been massive. Everyone has seen that in this situation there is strength in numbers”.
If you want to discover the best option to protect your savings, enter Preciosos 11Onze. We will help you buy at the best price the safe-haven asset par excellence: physical gold.
The response from the community has been massive, and the first collective purchase of gold in the history of our community is already underway. At the current price, about 11 kilos of gold will arrive at La Plaça. And we are already working on the second order!
Preciosos 11Onze was born as a tool for the 11Onze community to protect their savings in an extremely convulsive context. And people are taking advantage of this unprecedented possibility in the market. The community’s response has exceeded 11Onze’s expectations, as product manager Isaac Sène explains: “We were very confident because we see very high levels of engagement and trust. But we could not have imagined that this would translate into the response we have received”.
The impact of 11Onze
This is a special project and the international community is very clear about that. What 11Onze is doing, i.e. organising a collective purchase of gold, is not only innovative in the market, but also impressive. “All our partners were extremely surprised. They had never seen such a response,” says Isaac Sène. “It’s no longer the quantities,” he adds, “but the number of customers willing to buy precious metals to protect their savings. And there are more and more of them.
11Onze has already started buying gold for its community. The international context has put physical gold at the centre, as we have been warning for months, but the collective strength gives us a good position and has allowed us to get the best price on the market. This is the way forward, according to the product manager: “through economy of scale we have to offer increasingly competitive prices”.
In recent weeks, the price of gold has continued to rise, and the explanation is very simple, because, as Isaac Sène points out, “now more than ever, nobody has any certainty about how it will evolve this year and this lack of rationality on the part of the authorities, institutions and major benchmarks, will make people look for maximum certainty, returning to what has historically always proven to provide good coverage”. As a result, refineries are currently saturated due to excess demand, which is why 11Onze is carrying out the purchase in phases.
Protecting savings
For the same reason house prices continue to rise: people with large savings are looking to convert their money into assets that do not lose value. For months, we have been warning that inflation, the debt crisis, and the international situation make it advisable to diversify savings to avoid a depreciation of our money. Buying a home is very expensive, but buying gold on 11Onze can be done for as little as €3,000. We are looking for a way to democratise the protection of savings. “We hope that other institutions will follow our lead. For now, they only offer these products to their most valuable customers,” explained Isaac Sène.
At 11Onze, we want to put these tools in the hands of the entire community. Because you have the right to protect your savings, whether they are large or small. That’s why 11Onze is already working on the second gold order for our people. Don’t miss the opportunity.
If you want to discover the best option to protect your savings, enter Preciosos 11Onze. We will help you buy at the best price the safe-haven asset par excellence: physical gold.
Faced with a scenario of economic crisis where rising petrol prices are added to runaway inflation, the collaborative economy is becoming vitally important when it comes to alleviating the increase in family expenses. But what does 11Onze recommend as a community? Lels Granado, head of B2B sales at 11Onze, explains it in a new episode of Estat de la Nació.
“We are very concerned about what our community needs, in order to adapt and be able to meet these needs”, explains Lels Granado. The rise in oil prices, she warns, is having global effects. That’s why platforms like car-sharing and carpooling, “can help people not only to save money, but also to contribute to environmental sustainability. We are sharing cars, and taking cars off the road,” says Granado.
In the face of prevailing economic uncertainty, 11Onze is working to leverage its community character to offer the best cost-saving solutions to its customers. “Today everything is shared, using new technologies to create platforms where people can meet and share things that were unimaginable until recently, such as sharing a ride with a stranger,” explains Granado.
“With our community fintech philosophy, we activate this community to do things that could not be done individually. Collectively accessing financial or savings products to provide individual solutions“, Granado proclaims. Because, indeed, collective action is key in the social organisation of the population, but also when it comes to joining forces to get the best financial and savings products.
