11Onze Rolls Up its Sleeves

Someone has to do it

11Onze Rolls Up its Sleeves is the service that 11Onze sets up to help people all over the world. We don’t give a handout, we don’t clear consciences. We do what needs to be done. 11Onze Rolls Up its Sleeves. Someone has to do it!

Catastrophes that are no longer trendy: Turkey and Syria

Remember that on 6 February 2023 in Turkey and northern Syria there was an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale? It’s not in the news any more! There have been more than 50,000 people killed, who will not return, but what about all the people who have lost their homes? What about all the children who have lost their schools? Are they back to normality?

We want to raise €100,000 to create 50 Shelter Schools to care for 1,750 children

According to UNICEF there are more than 850,000 children displaced by the earthquakes.

Shall we give them a school?

Roll up your sleeves for shelter schools

At 11Onze we know that the future is always built from schools, that’s why we want to build refugee schools in the north of Syria. So that children can go back to school and get on with their lives.

11Onze Rolls Up its Sleeves with Better Shelter

For this reason, 11Onze has entered into a partnership with the Swedish foundation Better Shelter. They have a long history of building houses and schools for war and disaster victims. The idea was born in 2009. They immediately contacted the Ikea Foundation and UNHCR to design low-cost, comfortable houses and schools. Since then, they have installed shelters in 80 countries, improving the living conditions of 400,000 people.

What is a Shelter School like?

The idea is to make sturdy classrooms that last for a long time. You can see a classroom in a Better Shelter School at Ruba, in a refugee camp in Syria.

New call-to-action

What can I do?

Contribute with some money. Whatever you can. The money goes into an 11Onze account, which makes an aggregate donation to Better Shelter for direct intervention in the area. From 11Onze we will track the effective impact of the donations and how they have been transformed into classrooms for children to go to class.

So that you can calculate exactly what your support will be used for, you can consult Better Shelter’s price list.

New call-to-action

One of 11Onze’s goals is to transform realities we don’t like. And we have an active, conscious and responsible community. That’s why we can say that, when it’s necessary, 11Onze Rolls Up its Sleeves. Because someone has to do it.

FAQs

No. The donations are collected in an 11Onze’s business account, which is neither a foundation nor an NGO, so they are not tax-deductible.

As we manage to accumulate amounts that allow the construction of the school shelters, we transfer them to a Swedish foundation that is setting up the shelters in Syria.

From 11Onze we have prioritised making sure that the money reaches the target and does not get lost along the way… Often, the organisations receive more money than those affected.

The areas most affected by the February 2023 earthquakes were Turkey and Syria, but it is Syria that has the most difficulty in providing space for schools for children.

11Onze aims to improve our community, but we don’t want to forget about the rest of the world.

The shelter school project is the first 11Onze Rolls Up its Sleeves, where we will give shelter and training to Syrian children.

But we will roll up our sleeves for more cases from all over, as long as we can guarantee and show that the funds go to the end goal and are not lost along the way.

Better Shelter shelters are designed and built by the IKEA Foundation and are built to last, as after a natural disaster it takes years for the affected area to recover. That’s why shelters have to be built to last. A shelter is a stronger, better and a more long-lasting solution than a tent.

These shelters are very easy to build, they are assembled like an Ikea piece of furniture with simple tools.

The shelter is packed in a box and Ikea delivers them to a distribution centre in Turkey, very close to the affected area.

11Onze Rolls Up its Sleeves will show to its community the schools and classrooms we have managed to build. We will soon see the results.
