“Not going through Madrid is fundamental”
Now that the first 5,000 customers can download El Canut, at 11Onze we want to know what the promoters, who have been at the forefront since day one, think. This is the case of Jaume Cifuentes.
Cifuentes, a retired IQS chemical engineer, was one of the lucky ones to use the 11Onze super app exclusively in the testing phase. He admits that, due to his age, he is not very good with technology and, in spite of everything, he found El Canut “very familiar and pleasant” from the beginning. In the first tests, he recalls the “intense” support provided by the 11Onze agents to resolve all the doubts and problems that arose.
He made transfers, explored all paths, and when he detected an error, he reported it so that it could be corrected. “We were very much in contact, following up. In the end we solved everything,” recalls Cifuentes, who was very surprised to learn that the days to test the new application were organised even on weekends, so as not to waste a single minute. “I was impressed by the predisposition. I realised that everything was really going well and with commitment,” he says.
Now that the project is up and running, with El Canut in the hands of customers, he values 11Onze even more than when he decided, out of political conviction, that there was a need for a Catalan financial institution that was close to the community. “After 1-O, it was clear to me that the state structures had failed us, that we had to be critical of the politicians who had not been up to the task, but I began to wonder whether I had done everything I could,” recalls Cifuentes, who has become involved in defending the Catalan social fabric through the Eines de País platform.
A very Catalan character
It was then that he began to hear that a new financial entity based in the community, a fincom, was being set up, and he saw it clearly: “If at some point we have another opportunity like that 1st of October, a financial entity not going through Madrid, that does not receive pressure from the State, is fundamental”, he defends. He also believes that the 11Onze project fits “perfectly” with the Catalan character. “We are very much our own, yes, but we have also shown that we are very communitarian. You only have to think of the events we have organised for the Diada in recent years”, he argues.
Cifuentes understands that the people who support 11Onze are sometimes disappointed by the difficulties involved in starting up a project of this magnitude, even angry, but he also calls for patience and perseverance. “It is a project with many obstacles ahead of it, because it involves talking about money, and people are suspicious, but it will go ahead. It has to go ahead, and it will be a success!
11Onze is becoming a phenomenon as the first Fintech community in Catalonia. Now, it releases the first version of El Canut, the super app of 11Onze, for Android and Apple. El Canut, the first universal account can be opened in Catalan territory.
