Greenflation is the term that refers to the increase in prices related to the energy transition. Xavi Vi\u00f1olas, editor of 11Onze Magazine, visits Energia, the new programme hosted by Eduard Berraondo, to talk about the economic cost of the fight against climate change.<\/b><\/h3>\n

Rising energy, raw material and food prices have pushed inflation to record highs. The causes are diverse and varied: climate disasters, geopolitics, and monetary policy play a key role. But <\/span>part of this inflationary pressure is caused by the energy transition to a ‘greener’ production model<\/b>. This is known as greenflation.<\/span><\/p>\n

This increase in prices <\/span>is directly related to the materials and minerals used in favour of renewable energies<\/b>, “when demand rises for the production of batteries for electric cars, solar panels or windmills, the raw materials used to produce these products go up in price”, Vi\u00f1olas points out.<\/span><\/p>\n

A phenomenon that is a necessary paradox that goes with the effort to fight climate change: <\/span>the more we want to accelerate this transition, the more expensive it becomes<\/b>. And yes, the energy transition is necessary and inevitable, but, as the editor of 11Onze explains, “the transition has a cost, and at the current rate, this cost is unsustainable”.<\/span><\/p>\n

That said, it is expected that in the long run, <\/span>economies of scale, more funding for green projects, and above all, reducing the cost of this funding<\/b>, will offset some of the effects of green inflation, ensuring the viability of the transition to a more sustainable model.<\/span><\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
