What was “El canut”? Why do we toast saying “Salut i for\u00e7a al canut”? What will El Canut be in 11Onze?<\/b><\/h3>\n

Who has not toasted with the expression “Salut i for\u00e7a al canut”? And then everyone has burst out laughing or there has been a murmur within the group of friends, especially when hearing the word “canut”. Because when the word “canut” is mentioned, usually it has a sexual connotation, which has nothing to do with its true origin.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the Middle Ages, the canut was a hollowed-out ox horn where brigands kept their gunpowder. Later, Catalan merchants found this invention useful and adapted it to store coins. Shortly afterwards, the canut had become the official purse of the Catalans, the one that peasants and merchants carried with them to the market.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thus, the <\/span>canut was a cylinder made of cane, leather or metal where our ancestors kept their coins.<\/b> Men used to carry this purse in the shape of an elongated cylinder around their waist or neck, so as not to lose it.<\/span><\/p>\n

A wallet of wallets<\/b><\/h3>\n

Now, <\/span>El Canut is evolving and will be the name of the 11Onze application<\/b>. We want to do the same as Catalans did in past centuries, but taking it to a new level. With the passage of time and the disuse of the canut, it has taken on a sexual meaning, since in the popular imagination the canut is related to the penis. And when the expression is used, everyone interprets it as a wish for health and vigour. But this is not our case. From 11Onze we wish you health and strength in El Canut.
